We are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Developer to join us on our mission to unlock the power of live entertainment data, empowering our clients to make data driven decisions, use timely insights to delight their customers and help solve their problems.
The Activity Stream Group provides software solutions for people who create great experiences; from gigs and festivals to arenas, theaters and sporting events around the world. We’re a fast-growing and fully funded start-up with offices in Edinburgh, Iceland, Serbia, Belgium, Denmark and the United States.
We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer based in Edinburgh or Reykjavik to join our Data and Infrastructure team. We have a hybrid approach and you’ll be primarily working from our office in central Edinburgh/Reykjavik or from home when you need to.
What will make you tick
Designing, implementing and maintaining the technical infrastructure to support existing Product capabilities and allow us to build new features reliably and scalably.
Working with our Data Science product team to build new ML pipelines and deploy next-generation features for our products.
Tackle technical challenges across a variety of backend, database and messaging technologies.
Close collaboration with the whole team to ensure we can move quickly but while still delivering a reliable and technically excellent product.
Mentor other engineers to increase their skills and leadership capabilities.
Building a platform as a product - your work will impact the experience of thousands of attendees from football matches and theater performances up to some of the world’s biggest sports stadia and arena gigs.
Designing complex solutions from the ground up - we know we have a big mission in unlocking the power of live entertainment data and want an equally big thinker to work within our backend and data team, laying solid foundations on which to build our products.

The role entails
- 8+ years of Backend engineering experience
- Exceptional programming skills in Java or a similar programming language.
- Exceptional knowledge and experience of databases and SQL
- Experience with data design and architecture and a passion for data integrity
- Knowledge of data streams and data processing (knowledge of Apache Flink or Spark Streaming is a bonus)
- A track record of driving the success of projects with company-level impact
- Love of live entertainment and the performing arts
- A friendly and approachable manner
- Excellent written communication skills
Our technology
On the backend, the data and infrastructure team uses Clickhouse, Postgres, RabbitMQ, Apache Flink and Avro, and writes in Java,Python and Rust. The architecture is based on microservices using Docker containers and is hosted in the cloud.
